Airplane Travel Beauty Essentials

Monday, August 3, 2015

Hello everyone and welcome to a very exciting week on the blog because its Travel Week! Recently I spent two wonderful weeks in Puerto Rico and over the course of this week I'm only going to share with you all photos from my trip, what I did, what I brought with me, and some of my favorite travel tips. So be sure to check back each day this week to see what new Travel Week post is up!

Traveling to Puerto Rico from California, especially the part of California I live in, is not an easy task. It requires several hours driving to the airport, then flying to the East coast, then changing planes, and then after 20 hours of traveling we finally arrive in Puerto Rico. All of that travel puts a lot of stress on the skin, especially while on the airplane. Now it might sound strange, but having an inflight beauty routine is really one of the only things that keeps me calm while flying. It gives me something to do and keeps my mind away from the fact that I'm sitting in a metal cylinder 35,000 feet above the earth.

First of all, I do not wear any makeup while traveling to my destination. Trust me, the only people that look good at the airport are Kim Kardashian and Harry Styles, you don't need to be one of them. Traveling puts a lot of stress on your skin, especially on airplanes where the cabin is pressurized and full of circulating air that just dries out your skin. The first thing I do is wipe my face and neck with one of the Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Facial Wipes. The wipes smell like cucumber so they give you that spa like feeling and the coolness of the wipe soothes the skin. This step is important to wipe away any dirt and excess oils that have accumulated on the skin. The next step really depends on my flight. If I am flying during the day or only going to be on the plane for less then five hours, then I will just apply a thick layer of my moisturizer. If I am flying over night or will be on a plane for an extended amount of time, I like to use a face mask. I'm sure right now after reading the words face mask you think I'm a crazy person, but you need to trust me, there is always a method to my madness. First of all, I recommend using the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight mask, which is clear (you thought it was going to be a colored mask didn't you? I told you to trust me) so you can't even tell you have it on. It basically is a thick moisturizer that creates a barrier on your skin to lock in all the moisture. This step of applying moisturizer or a mask to your skin is the most important tip and step in any travel beauty routine in my opinion.

There are just two more things I like to do during my inflight beauty routine. Firstly, I always carry a travel tooth brush and toothpaste. Brushing my teeth is just so refreshing and gives me a good excuse to get up to walk around and stretch my legs a bit. Another thing is that I always carry hand sanitizer. Airplanes are full of germs and it's not convenient to get up to wash your hands after you touch anything, so having hand sanitizer really comes in handy while traveling. After all of that, I just sit back and try to relax by watching a movie or reading a book. I hope you found some of these tips helpful and use them during your future travels.
