Makeup Starter Kit: Drugstore Edition

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

With a new year means new beginnings and for some the chance to start over. Today I am sharing with you all what I believe to be the perfect drugstore makeup starter kit. Whether you are just starting out with makeup or just need some new items to add to you collection, here are my suggestions from the drugstore.

This concealer is one of the best at the drugstore. I have been using this concealer for 10 years now. It was the first concealer I ever used and is still one of my favorites. It is creamy, blends out well, and has excellent coverage. The shade range for this concealer is also one of the best at the drugstore. Whether you have a warm, cool, or neutral skin tone, there is a concealer shade perfect for you.

If you have oily skin or just want to set your makeup, I recommend this powder from Rimmel. This powder is so finely milled that when you apply it on your face it doesn't get cakey or have an over powdered look.

Jordana is a brand that I believe doesn't get enough recognition in the makeup world. The Jordana Fabuliner is one of the best liquid liners at the drugstore. I buy mine at Walgreens and it only costs a few dollars which is so cheap. The applicator is so easy to use, especially if you are a beginner, and the pigmentation is very opaque.

Some of the biggest problems with bronzers at the drugstore are that they have shimmer in them, are orange, too dark, or chalky. Well, this bronzer has none of that. This NYC bronzer is not only very affordable, but gives highend bronzers a run for their money. This bronzer goes on smoothly, blends out well, and gives you that natural glow you're looking for.

A lot of the drugstore brands have great blush options, but I believe the Revlon powder blushes are some of the best. They are very natural looking, come in an array of colors, and most importantly, have a great lasting power. My favorite color is Haute Pink because it gives you that perfect flushed cheek look.

One drugstore brand is in my opinion the queen of drugstore eye shadows, and that is L'Oréal. The L'Oréal colour riche dual effects eyeshadow quads are perfect if you're just starting out with eyeshadow. They come in many different color combinations, are pigmented, have little fallout, and blend seamlessly to look stunning on the eyes.

I have tried many drugstore brow products, but I am always disappointed and continue to go back to my longtime favorite from Milani. The Milani Brow Fix comes in three different shade combinations with a highlight color, light color, and dark color. This kit also comes with a sponge brush to apply the highlight color, an angled brush to apply the brow colors, and tweezers. You really get the most bang for your buck with this product, so if you're on the lookout for a new drugstore brow product, pick up this one from Milani.

The drugstore has so many lip product options that it can sometimes be very overwhelming. Well, I'll make it easy for you. The Revlon Colorbust Balms are my favorite lip products from the drugstore. They come in three different formulas, lacquer balms, matte balms, and balm stains. With so many different formula and color options, Revlon has exactly what you're looking for.

When first starting out with makeup, I wouldn't suggest going for a very high coverage liquid foundation. The Garnier BB cream is that perfect mix between foundation and tinted moisturizer. It has the coverage of a foundation but the feel of a tinted moisturizer. It can be applied with a brush or just your fingers. I use this product as my everyday foundation because it's so light weight and perfect for everyday use.

If you have read my blog from the beginning, you should know of my love for the L'Oréal Miss Manga Mascara. I am constantly trying new mascaras and always on the hunt for the perfect mascara. For me, the Miss Manga mascara is the best. It gives your lashes the mascara trifecta of volume, separation, and length. If you haven't tried this mascara, you need to go to the store and purchase it right away.
