Winter Beauty Favorites

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Well, the winter season has come and gone, even though some days it still feels like it is around. Today I am sharing with you my beauty favorites that got me through the long winter months.

Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer in Milk Chocolate
I've been religiously using my NARS Laguna bronzer for a while now, but like anyone I get bored with my makeup easily and love to try something new. So I started looking for a new bronzer and it seems like everyone loves the Too Faced bronzers. I have pretty fair skin, especially during the winter, so I went with the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte bronzer and I fell in love with this bronzer the first time I used it. I now understand why there is so much hype around the Too Faced bronzers. This bronzer is the perfect shade for my skin tone. It is a light tan brown that has a neutral warm tone and blends really well into the skin. What I love the most is that I can build it up and it never looks blotchy or muddy on the skin. I would highly recommend this bronzer for all my fair skinned readers.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
You already know my love for the none other Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. This foundation is perfect for the winter months. It is a medium to full coverage foundation that is hydrating for my dry skin, but still lasts throughout the day and doesn't get broken down. I apply a single layer with a damp beauty blender all over my face and then I add a second layer in the center of my face around my nose, cheeks and chin where I have the most discoloration and where my foundation usually starts to fade first. I really enjoy the months that I am able to wear this foundation because it has such a beautiful finish, but now that we are heading into the warmer months I'll have to either mix it with a matter foundation or stopping wearing it at all because my combination skin gets really oily during the summer. Giorgio Armani actually just launched at matte version of this foundation so maybe I'll give it a try.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
I really struggle when it comes to using face powders. I have combination skin, but during the winter my skin gets so dry and dehydrated that wearing face powder can make my makeup look cakey fast. The Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder is such a cult favorite with a very intense following and has such high reviews, so I decided to give it a try. Why have I not been using this powder?! This powder sets my foundation so it lasts all day and doesn't look cakey. I apply it with a damp beauty blender to set my under eyes and then I dust it lightly on the rest of my face with a fluffy brush. If you are on the hunt for a new face powder, then myself and thousands of other people highly recommend the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder.

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Nourishing Primer
I struggled with such dry and flakey skin during the beginning of winter. My skin would just drink up my moisturizer and then suck the life out of my foundation, so I needed to find a good face primer to be the barrier in-between my skin and my foundation. My usual Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer was not working well enough to keep my skin moisturized throughout the day. After doing some research, I decided to give the Make Up For Ever Nourishing Primer a try and this primer became a life saver! It is like wearing a second layer of moisturizer under my foundation and keeps my skin from becoming dry and flaky. If you have dry skin or find that your face seems to eat up your foundation, then you must try this face primer.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder Foundation
Like I was saying earlier, I really struggle with face powders, especially during the winter. I have been using the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in the morning to set my foundation and concealer, but I have been looking for a touch up powder to use throughout the day. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder Foundation has been getting such high reviews online, and since I love the liquid foundation I thought I would give the powder a try. This powder is so finely milled that is looks undetectable when I apply it, but it does such a good job taking away the shine on my face with out making my foundation look cakey. The only problem I have with this powder is the high price tag. Other then that, this is one of the best touch up powders I have ever tried.

I have fallen back in love with my MAC eyeshadow palette and I have been using two shades from this palette all winter. First, the shade Haux in the top left corner, which is a soft muted rosy brown with a satin finish. I have been loving to wear this shade in my crease to add a bit of color to my looks. The other shade I have been using a lot is the shade Patina in the middle, which is a taupe brown with golden pearl and a frost finish. This has been my go to shade to wear all over my lid on a day to day basis. I know there are so many different eyeshadow brands nowadays, but MAC eyeshadows will always be some of my favorite eyeshadows. Maybe in a different post in the future I will talk about my favorites and go over all of the shadows in my palette.

If I had to pick a favorite eyeshadow stick, the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock would be my pick. This eyeshadow stick is a dusty pink mauve color with lots of shimmer and glitter. It's the perfect way to add color to your lids without going overboard. I like to wear it all over my lids and pair it with the MAC eyeshadow in Haux in my crease for the perfect mauve eye look. I always get a lot of compliments on my eye look every time I wear this eyeshadow stick.

Another eye shadow stick I have been loving this month is the Burberry Eye Colour Contour Smoke and Sculpt Pen in Dusty Rose. This eyeshadow stick is a dusty dark grey mauve with a purple undertone. It's a great alternative color for a smoky eye then the typical brown or black. I love to wear this color on it's own but my favorite way to wear it is to layer it with the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock for an extra pop of color.

I recently received a sample of the Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara from Sephora as a point perk. I am very loyal to my Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, (which I still love) but I'm a mascara junky who loves to try new mascara, and this mascara almost gave the Too Faced mascara a run for its money. The wand of this mascara is similar to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara where it is an hourglass shape, but the difference is that this one is a bit thinner. The sample mascara blew me away so much that I decided to buy the full size. It separates my lashes well and gives the lashes lots of volume. If you tried the Too Faced mascara and didn't like it, then I would recommend trying the Stila Huge Extreme Lash mascara.

I always buy the big mascara sampler pack from Sephora during the holiday season, and this year it came with a full sized YSL Babydoll Mascara. I gave it a try and I can see why a lot of people really like this mascara. I mainly use this for my lower lashes because the wand is super thin so it grabs all of my lower lashes.

This was another product that I received as a sample from a Sephora point perk. I've never really used a mascara primer before, so I gave the Lancôme Cils Booster XL a try without having any expectations and I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved it. This mascara base adds plenty of volume and length to my lashes before I've even put on my mascara. I love the sample so much that I decided to purchase the full size. I don't think I'll be able to live without it now.

Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in Love Bite
I caved and bought a Kylie Jenner Lip Kit.... and I'm so happy I did! There has been so much hype around the Kylie Jenner lip kits and there has also been some controversy. After months of debating in my head, I decided to form my own opinion about them and purchase a lip kit. I bought the Lip Kit in Love Bite which is a deep bruised plum mauve with a hint of brown. This liquid lipstick goes on thin but is really opaque and lasts well throughout the day. It also layers well for touch ups without getting too think or flakey. The hype behind the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits is not fake or just plain hype, its real and I plan on trying many more products from the line in the future.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Allison & Heathers
I love the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks. I have two favorites that I have been wearing throughout the winter. First the limited edition shade in Allison which is a pinky brown shade that is a perfect neutral for winter. Then there is the shade Heathers which is a brownish oxblood that is the perfect vampy red brown shade to heighten any makeup look. I would recommend you to try to get your hands on the limited edition shade Allison as soon as possible because the shade is so unique and the perfect addition to any collection.

Maybelline Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lipstick in Mauve It & Raging Raisin
Maybelline is one of my favorite lipstick brands overall, and my absolute favorite lipstick brand from the drugstore. A couple months ago, Maybelline came out with a new lipstick formula called the Loaded Bolds. The formula is very similar to their Creamy Matte formula which I love. The shade I have been wearing the most throughout winter is Mauve It, which is a dusty plum mauve. The second shade is Raging Raisin, which is a deep burgundy with a brown undertone.

Sephora #24 Burnt Sienna & #14 Blackberry Sorbet
I love the Sephora lip creams and I was so happy to hear that they were expanding their collection a couple months ago. I purchased a few new colors, but I had a new favorite and an old favorite I wore throughout winter. The new favorite shade is Burnt Sienna, which is a warm toned neutral mauve with a reddish brown undertone. The old favorite shade is Blackberry Sorbet, which is a deeper berry shade with a purple undertone.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Rapture
Urban Decay knows how to make lipsticks. Their Vice lipsticks line they launched last year are simply amazing. My go to lipstick shade during the winter when I wanted something easy to wear because my lips were dry or I was running out the door and needed a color that went with anything, I would grab the shade Rapture. It's a dusty rose shade that is a perfect neutral for the winter months.

Bite Beauty Mauvember 2016 Lipstick
Bite Beauty has quickly become one of my favorite lip product brands and during the month of November they came out with the limited edition Mauvember lipstick which supports the Movember Foundation to support men's health. I love supporting a good cause and getting a beautiful lipstick out of it was a bonus. This lipstick is apart of their Amuse Bouche lipstick line. The formula is creamy but dries down to a more stain finish. The color is a true mauve shade, which if you can't tell is my favorite lipstick shade ever.
