Battle of the Brands: Estée Lauder vs. Maybelline

How many of you out there are like me and have terribly dark under eye circles? For me it's always been a struggle to cover them up. Regular concealer is sometimes just not good enough, so I went on the hunt for the perfect product to cover up my pesky dark circles. I first bought the Estée Lauder Double Wear Brush On Glow BB Highlighter. I'm not gonna lie, this stuff is magical! I just use a few swipes in a triangle under my eyes, blend it in, and then my dark circles are gone. The only problem is that this product comes at a hefty price, so I wanted to find a more affordable drugstore dupe. I came across the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser which seemed like exactly what I was looking for, so I put it to the test. Overall, both products give you a similar affect and cover your dark under eye circles, but there are a few differences that I thought were worth mentioning.

First, the Maybelline is more of a pink shade where as the Estée Lauder is more of a creamy yellow. Pink is said to better counteract the blue tones in dark circles and I do find that to be true, so a point for Maybelline.

Second, the Estée Lauder is more pigmented. I find that I use a far less amount of product with the Estée Lauder then the Maybelline, and I find that I sometimes have to do two layers of the Maybelline if my under eye circles are really dark. This being said, it seems that I am going through the Maybelline a lot quicker, so a point for Estée Lauder.

Third, longevity and blendability. They both blend out on the skin pretty nicely, but I do find the Estée Lauder blends a little more seamlessly because it has a more creamy consistency. As for longevity, the Estée Lauder just lasts so much longer on the skin then the Maybelline. So for longevity and blendabiity, another point for Estée Lauder.

Lastly, price. The Maybelline is a quarter of the price and has almost three times the amount of product then the Estée Lauder. There is really no competition with this one, another point for Maybelline.

Overall, they're basically a tie and it really depends on your preference. For me though, I do prefer the Estée Lauder over the Maybelline and I am willing to splurge for the product. If you have really dark under eye circles or just need a product to help you look a little bit more awake in the morning, then I recommend trying out either or these products.
